Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Partners With Stephen Hawking To Probe Alien Life

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on April 13 has announced a new plan in which he is partnering with world-renowned British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking and Russian billionaire Yuri Milner.

Zuckerberg said on his Facebook page of a $100 million effort to make tiny spaceships that are capable of making interstellar space travel.

He said that the trio plans to send tiny space probes (drones) to the nearest star system, Alpha Centauri, and probe possible alien life and water there.

Alpha Centauri is the closest star systems to our solar system, but even on the world’s current fastest spacecraft, it will take us 30,000 years to reach there.

So there are plans to make a fleet of tiny spacecraft called nanocrafts and  accelerate them to 20% of the speed of light using an array of laser beams.

This project, if successful, will take the nanocrafts only 20 years to reach Alpha Centauri.
