The flag was sent up with the help of a motorised mechanism, amid presence of large number of school students and supporters. Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
The Pahari Mandir is known as historical temple of Lord Shiva, and was also used by the British to hang freedom fighters.
The national flag is traditionally raised at the temple every Republic Day and Independence Day to pay homage to those who laid their lives in the freedom struggle of India.
The iconic Pahari Mandir stands atop Ranchi Hill at 2,140 feet from the sea level and overlooks the state capital’s biggest water body, Bada Talab.
During the event, Parrikar also laid online foundation of the Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University, and said strength as well as intelligence is the need of the hour to deal with cyber attacks. With this, he said, Jharkhand has become the third state (after Gujarat and Rajasthan) to have Raksha Shakti University.
