People In Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur Might Face Jail Time If They Defecate In The Open

People defecating in the open in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district might be put behind bars if they do not stop doing their shit in public.

Well, that’s what the district administration is mulling.

According to reports, Mandsaur collector Swatantra Singh is of the opinion that open defecation is a crime that deserves jail time.

He added that those who have the wherewithal to build toilets in their homes but are not doing so will also face the same kind of punishment.

So serious is the administration about the open defecation problem that it is reportedly planning to create a special ‘Shaurya’ force which will be entrusted to arrest those doing the ‘crime’.

And what about those who hold BPL cards but have not yet built toilets in their homes? Their cards will be taken away from them, according to the collector.

Singh said that open defecation is a blot on the image of the country.

“It’s very unfortunate that even after incentives from the government, which is now Rs.12 000 to build a toilet, people are defecating in the open,” said Singh.

And people have already been notified in this regard.

“Notice has already been issued so that people have a slight fear somewhere that they have to build toilets,” said Singh.

The collector told the media that his district is one of the 46 selected for complete eradication of open defecation under the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
