In Madhya Pradesh, Even Doctorates Are Ready To Become Constables

This is shocking but it highlights the grim reality of the job situation in the country.

The Madhya Pradesh government discovered that among the nine lakh aspirants who applied for 14,000 vacant posts of police constables, many held engineering degrees and some were doctorates.

And what is the highest qualification needed to become a police constable? Higher Secondary or Class X pass.

The exams for the post will be held on July 17.

Quoting data from Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), reports say that there are 3,438 diploma holders, 1.19 lakh graduates, 14,562 post graduates, 9,629 engineers and 12 with Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD).

“There are candidates with PhD and engineering degrees who have applied for the post,” said Bhaskar Lakshakar, Director, MPPEB.

And all of them are ready to fight for a salary in the pay band of Rs.5,200 to Rs.20,200 besides the usual government benefits and job security.

And if you think that this is a very deplorable situation, you only need to peek into neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. In 2015, some 23 lakh applied for just 368 positions in the Uttar Pradesh state assembly. The job was that of a peon and among the applicants were holders of masters degrees and PhDs.
