Machli, considered the “Queen of Ranthambore” and the most photographed tigress in the world, passed away recently much to the dismay of those who had known her personally and those who had heard of her.
Machli was 20 years old, which is considered a rather old number in tiger years. The cat, who was often found near the water territories of Ranthambore, was also known as the “Lady of the Lake”.
The tigress was named “Machli” due to the fish-shaped mark on her forehead. The most photographed tigress had also made appearances in documentaries and had her own postage stamp.
The tigress, who had birthed eleven cubs, had become popular after a fight with a 14-foot-long crocodile at the park. She was cremated during a ceremony attended by several officials.
