Karnataka player Kannanur Lokesh Rahul, popularly known as KL Rahul, on June 11 became the first Indian player to score a century on ODI debut when the Indian team took on Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.
The 24-year-old achieved the landmark in 115 balls with a strike rate of 86.96.
Though the match was a low scoring affair, Rahul single-handedly scored 100 of the required 169 runs and achieved both the feats with a 6 when he hit Hamilton Masakadza over long-on.
With that maximum he helped India thrash Zimbabwe by 9 wickets and take them 1-0 up in the 3 ODI series.
Before Rahul, Robin Uthappa was India’s highest debut scorer. He had scored 86 runs during his first ODI match against England back in 2006.
Rahul, who was also declared Man-of-the-match, during the post-match presentation said:
India will take on Zimbabwe for their second ODI on June 13.
