In a bold and praiseworthy move, a woman from Kerala called off her wedding because her fiance’s family started demanding dowry right after the engagement.
Remya Ramachandran, who hails from Thrissur, wrote in a Facebook Post:
“To all those asking for the date of my wedding, the family that before the engagement had said that they only wanted me, post the engagement, they were demanding 50 sovereigns of gold and Rs 5 lakh.”
She further said:
“As I am staunchly against dowry and because I believe that buying anything for a man and his family who are so unreliable is a loss, I don’t want to continue with the marriage.”
Soon after, her post went viral on the social media and many people applauded her for her decision.
“Good decision…congrats..Those unmarried boys should take pledge that won’t ask dowry and girls be strong,” one person commented.
Overwhelmed by the support, Ramachandran thanked people in another post.
