Justice Markandey Katju has been booked on sedition charges after he said that Kashmir should be offered to Pakistan on the condition that it takes Bihar too.
The move came following a complaint by a JD(U) MLC against his online post. Also, another complaint was also filed in the district court against Katju. Katju has been booked under 124-A (sedition) and other sections of IPC, according to SHO of Shashtrinagar police station Birendra Prata. Katju had earlier backtrack yesterday but then continued to take jibes at others.
Katju’s comments on Kashmir and Bihar drew sharp criticism. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had ridiculed him for trying to become ‘Mai-Baap’ (guardian) of Bihar.
Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and JD(U) leaders K C Tyagi and Shyam Rajak among others also criticised him for his comments.
“The state of Bihar may be lacking in resources but it did not give Katju a free hand to humiliate Bihar… The state may be devoid of resources but it does not mean anyone can lambast it,” Tejaswi had said.
However, Katju continued with his jibes and said Biharis should take their complaint against me to the U.N.
The date for hearing the plea is yet to be decided.
