The Islamic State attacked Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim country by population. The assault was carried out by suicide bombers and gun-toting militants.

Terrorists targeted a shopping mall in the capital city, Jakarta, leaving seven dead, including terrorists. Seventeen people are reportedly injured.

Remarkably, the Indonesian Police was able to kill five of the terrorists and capture two in less than four hours.

The police said that they were alert ever since receiving intelligence inputs of a possible attack in December.

This attack is the first major violence in Jakarta since the 2009 bomb blasts targeting two hotels that left seven people dead and more than 50 injured.

But the people of Indonesia showed the world and Islamic State that such cowardly acts of violence cannot terrify them, and that Indonesia will continue to be a peace-loving land.

So Twitter was flooded with the hashtag #KamiTidakTakut, meaning “we are not afraid”. Others were #JakartaBerani, meaning “brave Jakarta”.

And not just the people of Indonesia but even the President Joko Widodo led by example.

We salute the brave people of Indonesia and the security forces. Yes, terror has no religion and terrorists are cowards.
