Hailing from Karnal to ruling the space, Kalpana Chawla was a pioneer who made India proud all around the world.  In 1997, she became the first woman of Indian origin in space. At that time, it was unimaginable to think that a woman in India can go this far but, she proved her mettle. Her intellect, her courage and most importantly, her perseverance to follow an extraordinary path is applauding.

Unfortunately, on February 1, 2013, we lost her. Her second mission in space was turning out to be a successful escapade, but at the time of the re-entry to earth’s atmosphere, the space shuttle collapsed.

On this final journey, she had a beautiful conversation with Prime Minister I.K Gujral. This 8-min conversation shows the humility of Kalpana as she talks about India and space.
