Mehbooba To Become CM In The New J&K Government; To Be Sworn-In On April 4

After much deliberations, April 4 has been fixed as the date for the swearing-in ceremony of the new J&K government.

Both the parties – PDP and BJP – have also conveyed the mutually agreed date for the swearing-in ceremony to Governor N.N. Vohra.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti will now be the first woman Chief Minister of the state.

“Mehbooba Mufti sahiba will be sworn in as Chief Minister on April 4,” said PDP leader Amitabh Mattoo. He further added that she would usher in a new era of peace and prosperity in the region.

Earlier, the swearing-in-ceremony was delayed over the differences in the distribution of cabinet portfolios between the two parties.

However, PTI reports that there were no differences but deliberations between alliance partners that actually takes time.

The state has been under Governor rule as Mehbooba was reluctant to take over as the chief minister of the coalition government after the death of her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7 this year.
