To Make Money And Help Tourists Get ‘High’, Jamaica Might Install Weed Kiosks At Airport

Yes, tourists will enjoy this but so will the Jamaican government for you see, the move is purely for economic reasons.

Just like US state of Colorado – where weed is legal – made a whooping about $1 billion from sale and collected $135 million in taxes, Jamaica too is looking to increase the money in their coffers.

Weed was decriminalized in Jamaica in February. Anyone can carry up to two ounces of weed in Jamaica without giving a damn about anything.

The proposed plan aims at installing cannabis kiosks in the airports. A tourist looking to buy weed after obtaining a license for the same.

“The thought is that if you are coming out of the airport, there is a kiosk that you can go to. So basically whoever is coming out of immigration can go to that desk and register and get that clearance,” Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) Chairman Hyacinth Lightbourne told the Jamaican publication The Gleaner.

The permits will be issued at the kiosks by trained medical personnel. Here is a video of one such kiosk in a action, though not in Jamaica.

“It would primarily be for people who have a prescription and, in effect, you’re doing it for medicinal purposes with a permit from the Ministry of Health,” Lightbourne mentioned. But one can obtain 2 ounces even without a prescription following proper procedure.

So go ahead. Fly to Jamaica and get high. I am sure somewhere up in heaven Bob Marley must be singing sonorously “Ganja Ganja”.
