To prevent misuse of online e-ticketing facility provided by Indian Railways, the e-ticketing website of the Railways will now allow you to book only six times a month, starting February 15.
Indian Railways’ e-ticketing website, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), at present allows a person to book 10 times a month but after receiving a number of complaints it has decided to reduce the number.
According to a senior Railway Ministry official, the Indian Railways felt that a genuine passenger would not require to book tickets online, more than six times and thus decided to reduce the number from 10 to 6.
He further stated that the number was derived after an analysis, in which they found that 90 per cent of online users were not booking up to six tickets in a given month and only 10 per cent reached a number more than 6.
They further suspected that these 10 per cent users might be touts, misusing the facility for personal gain.
Thus to deter such touts, and to make sure genuine users get tickets, the Indian Railways decided to reduce the maximum number of e- booking to six, per individual.
Besides, in the past the Indian Railways have already put-up various checks on the website to deter the touts.
Recently, they reduced the number of bookings in a day to two tickets with per individual’s user-id. The reservation booking hours have also been kept from 8 AM to 10 PM for advance booking and from 10 AM to 12 noon for Tatkal Booking.
They have also disabled the Quick Book option from 8 AM to 12 noon.
To prevent ticketing agents from exploiting the the facility, they have also barred travel agents from booking tickets from 8 AM to 8.30 AM for general bookings, from 10 AM to 10.30 AM and 11 AM to 11.30 AM for Tatkal booking in AC and non-AC classes respectively.
They have also stopped payments through e-wallet and cash cards from 8 AM to 12 noon and allow only one booking per user login session except for return/onward journey between 8 AM to 12 noon.
