India’s Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman Biocon, Awarded Highest Civilian French Honor

One of the top 100 most powerful women in the world according to Forbes, 2016, Biocon Chairperson and MD, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has been awarded with the highest French Civilian Honor, the Chevalier de I’Ordre National de la LAgion d’Honneur or as it translates into English, Knight Of The National Order Of The French Legion of Honour. This comes as a reward for her outstanding contributions to Biosciences and Research done globally.

The announcement of the award has been made, but she will actually be conferred on behalf of the President of the French Republic at a special ceremony later this year.

In the past, this award has been received by Indians like Amitabh Bachchan. Nadita Das, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, among many others.

This year, it is Mazumdar. She lives a passionate and responsible life.

Besides being the Chairperson of Biocon, a biotechnology company based in Bangalore, she is also the Chairperson of IIM-Bangalore. In 2014, she was awarded the Othmer Gold Medal for outstanding progress in science. The Forbes Magazine has described her the wealthiest self-made woman in India.
