Olympics: Indian Hockey Team Registers Historic Win Over Argentina, Virtually Secures QF Position

After August 8’s heartbreaking loss to Germany, India’s men’s hockey team set aside their Monday blues and registered a thumping victory over Argentina.

The team set out on the field with the determination to win and dominated the game in first three-quarters of the game.

Wearing white, the team registered two early goals to take a 2-0 lead over the Argentinians who were relentless in their attack.

In the final quarter of the game, the Indian team received a relentless Argentinian side, who went all out trying to register their second goal.

The Indian team was forced to face back to back penalty corners and referrals and faced a tense five minutes of the game.

But the boys kept their cool and despite being forced to defend, continued their attack till the final whistle blew.

The 2-1 victory took them to the second position in Group B, which virtually solidifies India’s chances of a quarterfinal berth in Rio Olympics.

The win over the Argentinian side was also not a small feat as this was their first victory against the team since 2009.

The Indian team would now be facing Netherlands in their next group match. The game is set to take place on August 11.
