The team is looking to represent India in the upcoming World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC). The selectors have chosen a final open team to represent India at World Junior Ultimate Championship (WJUC) happening in Wroclaw, Poland from July 31 to August 6, 2016.

However, to participate, the team needs funds.

The sport is still growing in India but team members say that it has been around for eight years or so. There are 23 members, out of whom seven play and the rest are substituted turn by turn.

Played with a flying disc, it is the only sport in the world that is played without a referee – based only on the integrity of the players. The responsibility of fair play lies with the athletes and every player can call their own fouls.

The players, all under 20, may come from different cities but most are bound by a common thread –financially weak backgrounds.

While seven are from Surat, eight are from Chennai, three from Pune, one each from Delhi, Auroville and Goa.

“We’ve put in all the hard work on the fields, in the gym to be a formidable force on the world stage,” according to the players.

With players coming from humble family backgrounds, the costs seem much beyond what they can manage.
