Hyperloop One Begins Talks With Indian Government; PPP Model Being Explored

Talks to have Hyperloop One in India are already on. If things go as planned then the superfast transport system will be zooming across the country taking everything from freight to passengers.

A final decision on having the system in India will be taken by the end of this year.

Elon Musk’s futuristic urban transportation dream is set to change the travel. Reports say that officials from the company at the ‘Vision for India’ event where they announced that they were looking to develop five high-speed corridors in India.

The event was also attended by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who told attendees that the Centre was “keenly watching new developments and technologies”.

Once complete, the travel time between, say, Delhi and Mumbai will be cut down to 55 minutes. The company said that its five routes would be:

Bengaluru to Thiruvananthapuram: 736 kilometres in 41 minutes

Delhi to Mumbai via Jaipur and Indore: 1,317 kilometres in 55 minutes


Bengaluru to Chennai: 334 kilometres in 20 minutes

Mumbai to Chennai via Bengaluru: 1,102 kilometres in 50 minutes

Bengaluru to Chennai: 334 kilometres in 20 minutes

Rob Lloyd, CEO of Hyperloop One, said: “Hyperloop One will help accelerate India’s growth towards building substantial infrastructure that is financially and environmentally sustainable.”

India was one of the few countries from where entities qualified as the proposers of the most pragmatic, robust and cost-effective Hyperloop projects.

 

A public-private partnership will be explored to build the Hyperloop. Keeping in mind the ‘Make In India’ initiative, most of the components will be sourced locally.
