In a gruesome incident in Prakasam, Andhra Pradesh, a five-year-old boy was brutally murdered by a local man, allegedly for a human sacrifice.
The accused Tirumala Rao was allegedly practising witchcraft and as a ritual sacrificed the boy on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Pokuru village under Voletivaripalem mandal. Villagers thrashed the accused and set him on fire after the murder came to light. The accused, who has survived, is said to be in his mid 30s and is believed to have taken the boy from an anganwadi
(child care centre).
Villagers say that Rao took the young boy to his house where he first performed a ceremony and then cut the boy’s head so as to collect his blood into a vessel and sprinkle it all over his house as a part of the ritual.
The incident came to light when the young boy’s mother realised that her son was missing from the anganwadi
and could not be found. When she enquired as to where the boy was, she was told Rao had taken him along. The woman then went to Rao’s house to search for the boy along with a group of villagers and found the house locked. They proceeded to break the lock, only to find the boy’s decapitated body in the house. The sight infuriated the villagers, who then launched a search for Rao and on finding him tied him to a pole, thrashed him and set him ablaze after pouring kerosene over him. By the time the Police rushed to the village, Rao had suffered burn injuries. They rescued him and took him to a local hospital in the area for first aid. He was then shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ongole. The Police have registered a case and the investigation is currently on. The Superintendent of Police, C Srikant, visited the village to get details about the incident.
