Angry With Human Rights Violations, Hundreds In PoK’s Gilgit Raise Anti-Pakistan Slogans

While Pakistan continues to interfere in India’s personal affairs in Kashmir, Islamabad is itself involved in committing atrocities on the people of Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan region.

Following the arrest of over 500 Gilgit residents by Pakistani security forces, hundreds of protestors took to the streets early on Saturday chanting anti-Pakistan slogans.

They raised slogans for the release of Baba Jan, a top political leader of the region who has been arrested for his opposition to Pakistani activities.

According to ANI, the sloganeers were demanding an end to Pakistani army’s presence in the region. They accused the Pakistani political establishment of trying to quell their demand for political rights.

The protests are a reflection of the growing resentment against Pakistan’s occupation of the region.

Residents of Gilgit are opposing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which they say benefits only the Punjabi community outside of the region.

Moreover, jobs under the CPEC are being given to Pakistanis instead of the people of the region. This is one of the major reasons why the youth of the region have come out on the streets against Pakistan.

Gilgit-Baltistan part of PoK. Though a separate administrative unit of the country, China had previously told Pakistan to merge the region with the rest of the country to facilitate the construction of the CPEC.

Pakistani authorities have come down heavily on the protesters. Pakistan has been accused of committing numerous human rights violations to suppress the protestors.
