Indian national team goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu scripted history on June 30 when he started the game for Norwegian team Stabaek FC during their Europa League qualifier match.
A day before Sandhu had expressed his excitement with this Tweet:
Stabaek FC were taking on Welsh side Connah’s Quay Nomads F.C. in Rhyl, and it was first time in history that an Indian player was playing in the Europa League.
Sandhu was only able to play the match for 30 minutes as he picked up a finger injury.
His team however ended the game on a positive note with a 0-0 draw.

Sandhu had signed for Stabaek FC back in 2014 but had to wait till May 2016 to be able to participate in a top-tier European League match (in Norwegian Premier League) as Ivorian Sayouba Mande usually starts for Stabaek FC.
