A special court of Ahmadabad has pronounced the quantum of sentence with regard to the 2002 Gulberg society massacre, and decided to award life imprisonment to 11 convicts.
Out of the 24 murder convicts; while 11 were given life imprisonment, while 13 others were charged with lesser offences.
Out of these 13, one has been sentenced to 10 years in jail, while 12 others to seven years each.
Back in 2002, 69 people, who lived in Ahembdabad’s Gulberg Society were massacred post-Godhra riots.
It was one of the worst affected Muslim localities in Ahmedabad during the riots, with 69 people being killed on February 28, 2002, including Ex-Congress MP Ahsan Jafri.

On June 2, 2016 special judge P B Desai had held 24 out of a total of 60 accused, guilty and reserved to give sentencing on them today, June 17. The 11 accused that were given life Sentences, have been convicted for murder, though none were given a death sentence.
