Gujarat Police Turns Violent; Goes On A Rampage During Patel Agitation

In yet another case of Police misusing their power, Gujarat cops were caught vandalising public property and smashing cars of a residential are in Ahmadabad.

The incident of vandalism was caught on CCTV footage of a residential area in Shahibaug.

A group of policemen break the main gate of a residential property and enter the premises. They then go on a rampage and break everything in sight.

The police are seen using stones and butt of their guns to shatter car windows.

According to NDTV, this incident of vandalism happened during the height of Patel Agitations of August 25.

The Police Commissioner has been asked by the High Court to investigate the matter and to give his report on excesses committed by the cops.

While the High Court has asked for the Commissioner’s report, police are maintaining that they used force only after activists stated pelting stones at them.

Protestors led by 23-year-old Hardik Patel have been demanding that Patel community be added on the reservation list.

The protests turned ugly when Hardik, who was leading Patidar Amanat Sangarsh Samiti in this protest, alleged that four people died in police firing. He then demanded that family of the people who died be financially compensated and murder cases be filed against Gujarat Police for the brutality.

Since then the violence has escalated and eight people, including a policeman, have reportedly died since Tuesday. Army has been deployed in Ahmedabad and few other cities of Gujarat.
