Govinda Offers Unconditional Apology To A Fan Whom He Had Slapped

Bollywood actor Govinda has offered unconditional apology and compensation of Rs 5 lakh to a fan to whom he had slapped some years ago.

The move comes after Supreme Court last year pulled up the actor and ordered him to offer an apology.

The apex court had said:

“We all enjoy your movies and you are a great actor but we cannot tolerate your action of slapping. You don’t need to pay money for it. Even expressing regret is more than enough. Your prestige would not go down by expressing regret. Have a large heart and apologise.”

The Court also asked the actor to meet the victim, Suresh Rai, in person and apologise within two weeks, reports ANI.

In 2008, Rai went to sets of Govinda’s movie ‘Money Hai Toh Honey Hai’ at Filmistan Studio. The actor slapped him alleging that he was misbehaving with women on the sets.

Rai had said the incident left him shocked and he lost all respect for the actor. He approached the Bombay High Court with a trial case against Govinda but court quashed it.

He then moved Supreme Court.

Rai, who claims he had spent Rs 10 lakh on the case, said:

“Today in the court his lawyer offered me Rs. five lakh and said that he (Govinda) would apologise. He has not personally apologised, but his lawyer and secretary did.”

He says he is not satisfied with the offer.
