Meet Aditi Ashok, India’s 18-Year-Old Golfer Who Gave Olympic Medalists A Stiff Competition

On August 18-19 while India was focused on their two Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu, another Indian athlete Aditi Ashok was making waves at the Olympic Golf course.

Having just turned 18, Aditi was not only the youngest Indian in Rio Olympics but also the youngest golfer competing in the prestigious event.

Aditi on August 17 started her maiden Olympics campaign on a high with an impressive score of three-under 68 which helped her finish tied seventh after the opening round.

She continued her good run during the second round and at one point she was even a tied leader just two holes away from the finish.

At the end of Round 2 on August 18 she finished at a respectable eighth position.

Unfortunately, the lack experience started to show during the third round and she dropped 23 places the next day.

She finished Round 3 tied at the 31st spot well away from the podium finish.

Hard to come back, the young golfer though on August 20 continued her valiant effort and finished at 40 spot out of 60 competitors.

The results while didn’t go in India’s favor, her performance in Rio made everyone sit up and take notice, making sure that people will not forget this youngster that easily and will definitely expect her making waves at Tokyo Olympics.

Adit’s maiden national win had come back in 2007 when was just 9 years and 10 months old. She since then has won three National Junior Championship and two National Amateur Championship.
