Unfortunately, Rashmita, who is now 25 years old, could not continue playing her dream sport for long as poverty soon forced her to leave Football and take up a job to feed her family.

Married at the age of 21, Rashmita now has a young kid and a husband who doesn’t have a steady job.

With people to take care of and mouths to feed, Rashmita decided to take up a job which could at least provide her a steady income.

“Football is in my blood but poverty has nipped my career in the bud.”

The young Odisha girl now is in Bhubaneswar running a ‘Pan’ (Betel) Shop which helps her get enough money to be able to provide for her family.

Rashmita had represented India at both junior and senior international levels and was a key player behind Odisha’s senior national championship triumph in 2012.
