Rashmita Patra, was one of India’s leading defender by the young age of 12. She over the years had not only represented India during many crucial games but in 2011 also helped Indian national team win the invitational series in Bahrain which was Asia Cup’s qualifying tournament
Unfortunately, Rashmita, who is now 25 years old, could not continue playing her dream sport for long as poverty soon forced her to leave Football and take up a job to feed her family.
With people to take care of and mouths to feed, Rashmita decided to take up a job which could at least provide her a steady income.
“Football is in my blood but poverty has nipped my career in the bud.”
Rashmita had represented India at both junior and senior international levels and was a key player behind Odisha’s senior national championship triumph in 2012.
