Flood alert has been issued in several areas of Uttar Pradesh, following heavy rainfall.
According to news reports, many major rivers in the state are overflowing and have inundated large swathes of land.
Sharda and Ghaghra rivers in Lakhimpur Kheri and Barabanki districts have already crossed danger mark and threat of floods now looms in several districts surrounding the river. Looking at the dire situation, several flood posts have been established in various UP districts including in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Khiri, Basti and Bahraich districts.
Though river Ganga is still below danger mark, the water level in Kanpur, Allahabad and Varanasi area is on the rise thus flooding low lying areas.
Water from river Ganga has also entered into Rasulpur village of Amroha, forcing the district administration to sound flood alarm in twelve villages in the district. River Budhi Gandak in Kushinagar is also overflowing due to water being released from Valmikinagar barrage which is facing continuous rain in upper reaches of Nepal.
In past 2 days, the state has lost as many as 11 lives in accidents caused by rain in different parts of Uttar Pradesh.
