President Mukherjee Launches India’s First Cross-Border Radio Service

President Pranab Mukherjee on August 23 launched India’s first cross-border radio service called “Akashvani Maitree”.


The channel which is being run by All India Radio (AIR) Kolkata, is first of its kind cross-border radio service which has been launched by AIR and dedicated to Bengali listeners across West Bengal and Bangladesh.

The radio channel has launched aiming to strengthen India’s bilateral ties with Bangladesh and will air Bengali content for 16 hours daily.

The Radio channel will also be a unique platform for participatory content creation, thus whatever content that is going to be aired would be shared by Akashvani Maitree and Bangladesh Betar.

The new AIR channel will be broadcasted from a state-of-the-art brand new high power 1000Kw DRM transmitter which has been installed at Chinsurah in West Bengal’s Hooghly district and will cover the whole of Bangladesh through the medium wave (MW).

To tune into the new channel listeners will have to search for Akashvani Maitree on 594kHz frequency.
