Just Urinated At Varanasi Ghats? Now Pay 500 Bucks.

Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided that anybody caught relieving at ghats on the Ganga river in the city would be fined Rs 500.


A similar penalty would be imposed on those using soap while bathing in the river. The drive will become operational from March 2.

Municipal commissioner Shrihari Pratap Shahi said a directive has been issued to the officials concerned and penal action will be initiated against the offenders.

The VMC has build 23 of 205 community toilet complexes (CTCs) with over 70 CTCs are expected to come up in phase II and III of the project.


Recently, Additional District Magistrate of Allahabad was caught urinating at the banks of Triveni Sangam. This had irked the BJP government as it is currently undertaking a mission to clean Ganga.
