Fadnavis Sends Legal Notice To Digvijay Singh; Says Apologize Or Face Consequence

After a open debate between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, the BJP leader has now sent a legal notice to the latter for accusing him of “nepotism” and has asked him to apologize or face legal consequences.

Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) which is headed by Fadnavis had on February 10 issued an order directing Real Estate developers to furnish details of their bank accounts with the Axis Bank’s Worli branch in Mumbai, before February 15.

These accounts were to be used for payment of rent that were entitled to slum dwellers and Congress had immediately termed this directive as ‘unlawful’ as it directed them to open accounts only with a particular bank.

Digvijaya Singh had taken this argument a step further and accused Fadnavis of “nepotism” as the state agency’s order was asking developers to open accounts in a private bank, where coincidently Fadnavis’s wife Amruta Fadnavis works.

Answering to Singh’s accusation, Fadnavis had said that no rules were violated with that order and clarified that the decision had no connection with his wife whatsoever as she was just an officer at the bank and handles back office.

He further said that she has no targets to achieve and that Congress had issued similar orders in the past which not only had the name of Axis Bank on it, but also that of ICICI and HDFC banks.

But not taking his allegation lightly, Fadnavis’ lawyer Ganesh Sovani also asked Singh to tender an unconditional apology to Fadnavis on his twitter handle within the next two weeks after the receipt of the notice.

The legal notice read:

“I am instructed to call upon you to make amends and to retract the allegations made by you against my client while simultaneously tendering an unconditional apology to him (CM) within two weeks on your same Tweeter handle @digvijaya_28 after the receipt of this notice first at any of the three addresses mentioned above, failing which my client Devendra Fadnavis shall have no option but to initiate appropriate civil and/or criminal proceedings against you at your own risk as to the costs and consequences thereof of which please take a serious note. May wisdom prevail!”

The notice also said that should Singh, not issue an apology within this allotted time, Fadnavis will take the matter to court and file a defamation case among other proceedings against him.
