Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal on April 8 announced the launch of energy efficient fans that would help in contributing towards energy saving efforts.
Under the National Energy Efficient Fan Programme, every Indian household and business can buy Energy Efficient Ceiling Fans of 5-star rating at just Rs.1250, which will run on just 50 Watts of power. These fans would be made available by all leading companies such as Usha and Bajaj.
They will be also provided at an EMI of Rs.60 per month with total cost running upto Rs.1440 with interest.

A domestic category consumer can buy only two ceiling fans on one electricity bill.
These fans will hugely benefit people as one can save a total of Rs.700 per year.
The fan programme follows the government schemes of National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme and National Energy Efficient Fan Programme. Under the National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme, farmers would be able to replace their energy guzzling agricultural pumps with a 5-star rating.
These pumps come enabled with smart control panel and a SIM card which will give farmers the flexibility to switch the pump on or off with their mobile phones and from the comfort of their homes.
With these energy efficient agriculture pumps the union power ministry is looking at saving nearly 30% in energy by year 2019 itself. The energy saving in itself will boil down to an annual savings of approximately Rs.20,000 crore on agricultural subsidies and 50 billion units of energy per year. These new schemes will soon be implemented throughout the country by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in a joint venture with the Ministry of Power.
