Rio 2016: Dipa Karmakar Misses Olympic Medal By A Whisker But Wins Millions of Hearts

India’s first Olympics Gymnast Dipa Karmakar, on August 14 missed out on winning an Olympic Bronze medal by a whisker.


Karmakar finished fourth in the women’s Vault final event with an impressive score of 15.066, which was just short of 0.015 points from Swiss Giulia Steingruber Bronze medal performance.

Though the fourth place finish brought India another heartbreak, Karmakar’s performance in gymnastics left Indians across the world feeling proud of what the 23-year old was able to achieve.


Soon after the results, Twitter was flooded with tributes to the young gymnast with many Olympians, top politicians, and Bollywood stars coming out to congratulate Karmakar.
