In Asia, it is only New Delhi which is listed in the top 10 global cities in TripAdvsor’s 2016 travellers’ choice Destinations on the Rise.
Delhi is known throughout the world for its historical monuments, cultural display, satellite neighborhoods and mega malls.
Monuments such as the impressive Humayun’s Tomb offers a glimpse onto the city’s historical past, while the scenic marketplaces provide a real feel of the busy of metro city.
The awards highlights 52 destinations around the world selected using an algorithm that primarily measured the year-over-year increase in positive TripAdvisor traveller feedback and interest in accommodations, restaurants and attractions, across destinations worldwide.
The increase in booking interest year-over-year is based on TripAdvisor data for October 2014 through October 2015.
TripAdvisor chief marketing officer Barbara Messing said a well-travelled community has helped them to identify the destinations around the world that are gaining in interest and popularity. Other cities that have featured in the Travellers’ Choice ‘Destinations on the Rise’ as per rise in booking interest are:
- Tulum in Mexico with over 74 per cent,
- Cartagena in Colombia with over 49 per cent,
- Porto in Portugal with over 39 per cent,
- Gatlinburg in US with over 67 per cent,
- Moscow in Russia with over 27 per cent,
- Brighton in UK with over 60 per cent.
Others on the list are Lima in Peru and Banff in Canada.
Among Asian cities, New Delhi had a partner in Bengaluru among cities that showed a year-over-year rise in booking interest.
