Cricket’s fan following is huge in India. It is followed like a religion and people are mad about it. Almost everyone has watched a cricket match at least once in his or her life. But, have you ever thought about the academic qualification of your favourite cricketers? Of course they have studied apart from perusing their passion. You will be shocked to know that there are many cricketers who have engineering, IAS, medicine, commerce, astrophysics, Business Administration and other degrees. Here is a list of cricketers who are highly qualified.
1. Rahul Dravid got selected in the Indian National Cricket Team while studying MBA.
One of the finest batsman in cricket history is also known as “The Wall”. In 1996, he made his test debut and played his last test match in 2012. He has also led a team as a captain. After completing his schooling at St. Joseph’s Boy’s High School, Banglore he completed his graduation in commerce from St. Joseph’s College of Commerce Bangalore. Later, when he was in between his MBA he got selected in the Indian National Cricket Team.
2. Anil Kumble is a Mechanical Engineer.
This cricketer has done wonders on field and has earned a lot of fame. He was also the team captain in test cricket. His cricket career lasted from from 1989 to 2010. He has completed his schooling from National College Basavanagudi. Later, Kumble graduated as a mechanical engineer from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering (RVCE).
3. Javagal Srinath has engineering degree in Instrumentation Technology.
Indian former cricketer Javagal Srinath is the current ICC Match Referee. He is one of the finest bowlers and the only fast bowler to have taken more than 300 wickets in ODIs. In 1991, he made his test debut against Australia and his last ODI match was also against Australia in the year 2003. He has completed his engineering in Instrumentation Technology from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE).
4. VVS Laxman got admission in a medical college but later chose cricket.
In 1996, he made his first debut against South Africa and in 2006 his last ODI was also against South Africa. He has done his schooling from Little Flower High School, Hyderabad. After Class 12, he got admitted in a medical degree course but ultimately decided to follow his passion and chose cricket as his career.
5. Ajinkya Rahane is a commerce graduate.
He is the rising star of Indian cricket and made his test debut in 2013 against Australia; his last ODI was also against Australia in 2015. He completed his graduation in Commerce before following his passion and joining Indian cricket team.
6. Ravichandran Ashwin is a BTech in Information Technology.
Ashwin made his test debut in 2011 against West Indies and his last ODI was against Australia in 2015. He holds a BTech degree in Information Technology from a reputed college in Chennai.
7. Aavishkar Salvi has post doctorate degree in Astrophysics.
Former Indian cricketer Aavishkar Salvi was a right arm pacer. He holds a post-doctorate degree in astrophysics.
8. Murali Vijay holds a post graduate degree in economics.
After making his test debut in 2006 against Australia, Murali Vijay played his last ODI against Sri Lanka in the year 2013. Murali is a post graduate in economics.
9. Amay Khurasiya is an IAS officer.
Former Indian cricketer Amay Khurasiya was the left handed batsman who became IAS officer before he started playing for India.
