After its stunning defeat in Lok Sabha elections last year, Congress party is planning to launch its own national news channel to plug the “communication gap”, reports New Indian Express.
Senior Congress leader and former union minister AK Antony said that discussions are on to convert ‘Jaihind TV’ to a national channel.
Kerala Congress has been successfully running Jaihind TV for the last eight years. The channel was launched in 2007 by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The Antony committee, which looked into the reasons behind the 2014 defeat, identified communication failure as the main reason. The former union minister said:
“Congress is lagging behind in new-age communication systems and is not able to catch the limelight in comparison to other parties. We are not able to counter false propaganda at a time when people no longer cast their vote just by looking at a party’s symbol.”
Jaihind Channel managing director and senior Congress leader M.M. Hassan said:
“With Congress president’s concurrence, we have already started preparing a detailed report for a national channel.”
