According to a recently released draft
of the Education Policy by the HRD Ministry, Class X examinations will be made mandatory for students.
The draft, which gives ‘inputs’ for National Educational Policy (NEP) 2016, has also recommended other major provisions that needs to be added or removed so as to improve the standard of education in India.
Besides making class X board examinations mandatory, the draft also recommends provisions for ‘on-demand’ board examination so as to reduce stress on the students during the year-end examination and limit the no-detention policy till class V instead of class VIII.
A similar recommendation was made in year 2014 as well when many parents and teachers had raised their concern over the ‘no detention policy’ as it eroded the quality of school education in India.
Though nothing happened in 2014, looking at the draft of the new education policy, one might assume that the government is once again seriously considering revising their education rules.
