Aligarh Muslim University Becomes New Battleground; Clashes Leave One Student Dead

It was a scene of chaos when two student groups clashed at Aligarh Muslim University campus on April 23 evening.

The student groups vandalised property and the proctor office was set on fire. The clashes have left one person dead.

Trouble started when a student in Mumtaz hostel was assaulted and his room set afire, senior police officer Aligarh Range Govind Agarwal told PTI.



He rushed to the proctor’s office to file his complaint. Soon, students belonging to the two rival factions gathered and a clash broke out.

Students set three vehicles on fire near VC Lodge.



Police rushed to the university and fired few rounds in air to control the situation. In the firing two students sustained bullet injuries.

It is also known that the BTech exam is to be conducted in the university.
