Meet Renuka Yadav, Daugther Of A Domestic Help Who Is Now Chhattisgarh’s First Woman Olympian

Twenty-two-year-old Renuka Yadav recently created history when she became Chhattisgarh’s first woman Olympian. She is part of the 16-member-squad of Indian women’s hockey team for Rio Olympics.

She has been aiming for this feat since childhood and despite life’s adversities never gave up on her dream.

Belonging to a poor household of Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, Renuka’s parents worked as domestic helps to make ends meet.

As a small girl, Renuka used to help her parents by selling milk door-to-door on her bicycle, as it was difficult for the family to earn a livelihood.

It was also not easy to be selected in the women’s hockey squad and it was only Renuka’s strong determination and sheer hard work that got her selected in the national hockey team.

The good news is that she’ll be part of an Indian team that qualified for the Olympics for the first time in 36 years.
