In A Small Town In Chhattisgarh, Postmortem Is Being Done In The Open

Something strange is happening in Chhattisgarh. Near the block headquarters in Sonhat, which is close to the Hasdeo river, doctors are performing postmortem in the open.

According to this report, the morgue at the town, where the postmortem is supposed to be conducted, is without a roof.

This is why the doctors are forced to conduct the operation outdoors.

Being the only place where a postmortem can be conducted, villagers from around 102 nearby villages bring the dead for the procedure here.

The mortuary’s dilapidated condition is a result of anti-social elements using it as a den for their illicit activities, says the report.

They also destroyed the platform on which the dead were placed and the post mortem surgery carried out.

Relatives of the deceased are now forced to take care of the bodies by keeping night-long vigils in case the postmortem is postponed for morning.

Despite the heat and the obvious difficulties they face while doing the postmortem, the doctors are doing their job under the shade of a tree.

The local administration says that they will bring in a proposal to reconstruct the platform and the roof.
