rumours broke out
that Hollywood actor Charlie Sheen was going on Today’s Show to publicly reveal that he is HIV positive, the 50 year old confirmed the news by stating:
“I am here to admit that I am in fact HIV positive and I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks, of sub-truths – very harmful … stories that are threatening the health of so many others,” NBC News had earlier reported that Sheen was giving an exclusive interview to the Today’s Show and make a “revealing personal announcement.”
The interview which was conducted live on Tuesday with Matt Lauer as the host, turned out to be exactly what it was speculated out to be.
He began by stating that he trusted the diagnosis with people he thought he could confide in, but over the years had paid out upwards of $10 million to keep the illness a secret. VIDEO
He then added:
“What people forget is that that’s money they’re taking from my children…I trusted them and they were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful. My trust turned to their treason.”
Sheen is not new to controversy.
Sheen has also remained out of the spotlight for the past few months after FX decided not to renew his most recent show ‘Anger Management’.
Following this, Sheen broke off his eight-month engagement to adult film star Brett Rossi.
The rumours about Sheen being HIV positive in the past had also gained strength because of the known fact that the actor long struggled with substance abuse and has even admitted to soliciting with prostitutes in the past. While details of how Sheen contracted the virus is not known, People’s magazine claims that Sheen’s ex-wife Denise Richards has known about it for years.
The two got divorced back in 2006 after which Sheen contracted the virus.
The reports says that Sheen’s daughters Sam, 11, and Lola, 9 are HIV free. To watch the whole interview check
