In a breakthrough in the case related to sex crimes, a man who allegedly posted hundreds of obscene videos on the internet and shared them on WhatsApp, including three clips of women being raped, has been arrested by the CBI in Bengaluru, reports Hindustan Times
The accused, Kaushik K, is in his thirties and has an expertise in cyber technology, including that pertaining to uploading. According to a source:
“The CBI team used advanced cyber forensic methods to extricate clues from the video-clips underscanner to reach him. The accused played a lead role in three of the eight sex crimes being probed by us. We are ascertaining the extent of his exact role, two of his victims seemed minors. We have seen the video-clips attributed to him and they are utterly macabre and revolting.”
The investigation started on Supreme Court orders, after the Chief Justice of India received a letter and a pen drive with nine obscene clips from a Hyderabad-based NGO. The clips had both women and children filmed in obscene acts while many children were shown being beaten up. The source said:
“We have seized 500 video-clips or footages from him, we are yet to ascertain in how many of them he was personally involved. Based on the analysis, the probe may widen. The accused was earning a big sum by uploading the video-clips on porn sites and attracting a large number of hits, which brought him easy money.”
According to the source, CBI suspects that the accused could be part of a trans-national sex syndicate and will examine if the victims were blackmailed as well.
