Release 6,000 Cusecs A Day To Tamil Nadu: SC On Cauvery Water Row

In the on-going Cauvery water row between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Supreme Court today directed the state to release 6,000 cusecs a day from September 21 to 27.

While hearing the case, the apex court also asked the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Water Management Board within four weeks.

The Hindu reported that both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka can file objections to the Cauvery Supervisory Committee report in three days.

However, Karnataka government termed the decision as ‘disappointing’ and would challenge the decision.

“The decision of the committee is disappointing to us, tomorrow we are challenging it in the Supreme Court…the Supervisory committee’s decision is another blow to the state” Home Minister G Parameshwara told reporters. “

Soon after the SC decision, protests erupted from different places, especially in Mandya district and the protesters blocked the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

The Mandya Zilla Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti (MZRHS) said that it would intensify protests in the district. Also, members of various farmers and Kannada associations staged road blocks.
