A 12-year-old boy who was suffering with a painful lump in the back was admitted to the neurosurgery ward of AIIMS on April 9 night following his plight drawing attention on social media. A media report
suggested that the boy was waiting outside India’s leading medical institution for over 10 months for surgery.
According to family members, the boy will now undergo a wide range of tests starting April 11.
According to the report, Komal Singh, the boy’s father, said the boy was eating and his bed is also free now.
Rahul’s father, a construction worker from Rajasthan, had been waiting outside AIIMS for over 10 months to get Rahul treated.
Rahul is suffering from spinal dysraphism, which is caused due to birth defect. Doctors say it is malformation of the spine commonly seen in rural areas, and its early detection, and corrective surgery is required.
The 12-year-old’s plight led to some NGOs and individuals offering to help. Even Delhi government officials approached the family for treatment.
