CWG Bronze Medallist Jai Bhagwan Suspended By Haryana Police For Taking Bribe

According to NDTV, Indian boxer and CWG bronze medallist Jai Bhagwan has been suspended by Haryana Police following allegations that he accepted bribe of Rs.1 lakh earlier this year.

According to Haryana Police, Bhagwan allegedly received the bribe from three gamblers who were arrested in August in Haryana’s Hisar district.


Bhagwan, who was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2014, works with the Haryana Police as an inspector in Hisar district.

According to a Police official, an inquiry has been launched and Bhagwan, along with a constable, has been placed under suspension.

The news came to light when one of the arrested gamblers, who is a businessman by profession, lodged a complaint against Bhagwan, alleging that he had demanded Rs.10,000 more as bribe through the constable.

He then further revealed that Bhagwan had earlier taken a pay-off of Rs.1 lakh from him as a bribe to release him and other gamblers.

Jai Bhagwan is a well-known Indian boxer and has represented the country in the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and other international events.

The 2014 Arjuna Awardee, Bhagwan’s biggest accomplishment had come in year 2010, when he won a bronze medal at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.
