India is celebrating the 109th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Tributes are pouring in on social media and senior government officials, including the Prime Minister, are paying homage to the freedom fighter.
Boosted by the patriotic fervor, social media has been able to dig out images of the shirt, shoes and watch used by Bhagat Singh. And today’s occasion is helping the photos go viral.
According to reports, Bhagat Singh had handed over his belongings to his friend Jaidev, who kept them safe for all these years.
Many of the letters written by Bhagat Singh too have been treasured by youth in both India and Pakistan.
The pictures being circulated on social media show Bhagat Singh’s Italian-collared Khaki shirt and his shoes.
The pictures also include the shell of the smoke bomb he hurled in the Lahore Assembly on April 8, 1929 with fellow revolutionary Batukeshwar Dutt.
That shell was seized by the British CID and presented as evidence against Singh and Dutt in their trial at Delhi.
