Following the apex court’s order, the West Bengal government on September 12 announced
that they will return land ownership to 9,117 farmers in Singur and give cheques to remaining 800 farmers who had refused to take money.
The ‘Parcha’ procedure would take place on September 14 and the announcement about the same was made by Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee who said that the Supreme Court’s verdict would be be followed.
She further added that they have also asked some “temporary structures” to be removed, though she didn’t name TaTa Motors in her statement.

Back in 2006, the Left front government had allotted 1,000 acres of farmers land to Tata Motors for building a Nano car plant.
The Supreme Court on August 31, quashed this allotment and asked the government to give them their land back.
