Government Declares 2nd And 4th Saturdays As Bank Holidays

The Government of India has finally approved the long-pending demand of all the bank employees in India that the second and fourth Saturdays of the month be declared as offs.

The news, which broke out early on Friday morning, was received with much enthusiasm by banking employees.

The decision will be implemented starting September 1.

Talking about the notification for Saturday offs, All India Bank Employees’ Association’s (AIBEA) General Secretary C.H. Venkatachalam spoke to Press Trust of India (PTI) and said the move will bring huge relief to the bank employees and will help in improving their productivity.

“The notification regarding Saturday off has come. It is effective from September 1, this is a welcome move. This will be a big relief to employees and I hope that this will improve the productivity of employees.”

It should be noted that at present, all the Public Sector Banks and most of the private sector banks work half-day on Saturdays, with bank operational from 9 am till noon.

Venkatachalam also clarified that these offs are applicable only to second and fourth Saturdays, even if there is a ‘five Saturdays in a month’ situation.
