There will not be that familiar “nation wants to know” cry from the studios of Times Now. The man at the helm has decided to take a walk. Arnab Goswami, the maverick Editor-in-Chief, who should rightfully be credited with redefining the concept of debate on news shows has resigned.

According to The News Minute, which first broke the story, the most famous news anchor of Indian television will be starting his own venture but he has said that he will remain associated with television.

Arnab was also the President, News, of Times Now and ET Now. From the time the channel was launched in 2006, Arnab turned it into the most watched English news channel in India.

The crowing jewels of the channel were the two shows which Arnab hosted himself – The Newshour and ‘Frankly Speaking with Arnab’.

While ratings for The Newshour shot through the roof, ‘Frankly Speaking…’ took interviewing to a new high.

Arnab interviewed prominent names of the country including MNS chief Raj Thackeray, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

His interview with the Prime Minister was his last for ‘Frankly Speaking…’.

Arnab and his shows became even more popular with the advent of social media. He himself became both reviled and admired by the people.

And it is on social media where the tremors of his resignation are being felt:

Hilarious tweets started doing the rounds of social media:
