Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who was to host an event to mark the second anniversary of the Modi-led government, has now denied it.
“I don’t think they Congress are aware that I am not hosting the event. I have been invited as the brand ambassador of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign. It is up to the government to decide whether to have me there or not,” the senior Bachchan told Times Now.
He came under attack as Congress questioned the propriety of having him as the host and said it would send a wrong signal to the agencies investigating the Panama Papers leaks.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “We had no objection to Bachchan, but it would send a wrong signal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to think about it.”
Bachchan, whose name has allegedly come up in a massive leak of tax documents of offshore accounts of individuals, had steadfastly denied any role in it.
