Researchers of Washington State University need volunteers who can smoke marijuana for a study that involves developing a breathalyzer capable of detecting use of the drug.

As per Washington laws, it is illegal to drive under the influence. Those driving with five nanograms of active THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in their bloodstream are liable to be prosecuted.

The number of arrests for people driving under the influence of illicit drugs has been rising steadily in Washington. The research team is, therefore, in urgent need of a tool capable of quick response. If the study is a success, it will be a groundbreaking invention in the marijuana industry.

The research team is seeking volunteers that are 21 years or older. The first step of the study will involve testing of blood and mouth swab of the volunteers who will then be asked to purchase marijuana from a licensed store.

The volunteers will then smoke the drug privately in their homes and will be picked up and brought to the hospital for secondary testing. Participants will also be encouraged to interact with local law enforcement officers and take a standard sobriety test conducted by them.

The volunteers will be paid 30$, around 1900 rupees, for the first hour of participation and 10$, around 640 rupees, per hour for every additional hour.

The study will be conducted during the last two weeks of May and the first two weeks of June. Those desirous of participating may contact Nathan Wellar through email at Nathan_Wellar@hotmail.com or Nosbusch at peyton.nosbusch@wsu.edu or call (509)-432-1943.
