As Uttar Pradesh braces up for elections, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh raised the Kashmiri Pandit issue at an event for the Sindhi community at SP headquarters in Lucknow.

According to Amar Ujala, the SP leader said that if needed the UP government will rehabilitate the Pandits in the state if it is needed.

Singh lashed out at the BJP question why there was being a delay in the rehabilitation of the Pandits in the valley.

Countering BJP president Amit Shah’s Kairana remarks, Singh question the BJP’s plans for getting the displaced Pandits back in the Valley.

He asked why despite having a PDP-BJP government in the state headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, was there no progress in the rehabilitation plans.

Singh said that the SP will now be sending a team to J&K comprising himself, party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ram Jethmalani.

The team will study the condition of the Pandits in the state and take stock of the rehabilitation plans for them.

If needed, he said that the displaced Pandits will be rehabilitated in UP so that they are able to live with honour and dignity.

It is noteworthy that the J&K government has already identified land for the rehabilitation of the Pandits but are facing stiff opposition from the separatists in the Valley who have united in opposition. In fact, progress on the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandits matter intensified after the PDP-BJP government came to power.
